Dr. Mustafa Nasery
Co-founder and Director

As an Afghan-German multidisciplinary expert, Mr. Nasery has a doctoral degree in political science focusing on governance and state-building efforts in conflict affected countries such as Afghanistan from Germany’s Potsdam University, and a Master’s degree with a specialization in Crisis Management from Turkey’s Fatih University.

Dr. Nasery’s education is accompanied by more than 10 years of research, consultancy, and policy advice in the fields of Governance, Anti-Corruption, Public Administration Reforms, Public Policy, Migration, and Higher Education. As a practitioner, he has worked with various international organizations such as GIZ, USAID, UN, IOM mainly in Afghanistan, but also in Germany, Turkey, Georgia, Iran, and India. Dr. Nasery is fluent in English, Dari, Persian, Turkish, and has moderate, but rapidly improving levels of German and Pashto language skills.

Najla Zamani
Co-founder and Deputy Director

A Journalist, Public Relations Expert, and women rights advocate, Mrs. Najla Zamani has a Master’s of Literature and Dari from Afghanistan’s Kabul University and a Bachelor’s in the same major from Iran’s Varamin-Pishva University.

During his journalistic career, Ms. Zamani has been the Editor for the Irshad-ul Naswan Newspaper as well as the Mirnum magazine. Mrs. Zamani’s civil service career includes Manager of Public Relations and Communication in the Ministry of Women Affairs, and later as the Communication Consultant for the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission of Afghanistan. In recent years in Germany, Ms. Zamani has been working as a Writer for Banu Magazine and served the Diakonie organization as a Linguistic expert. Ms. Zamani is a well-known activist for Afghan women’s rights and has conducted several campaigns in support of women and civil service rights for Afghan women. In addition to Dari, Ms. Zamani speaks English, German, and Arabic.

Abdul Hadi Jalali
Co-founder and Board Member

Mr. Jalali, a Ph.D. candidate in political science with Germany’s Potsdam University, has a Master of Public Administration from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Bolton (United Kingdom).

In a career spanning over 14 years, Mr. Jalali has served the Government of Afghanistan and international donors and development partner organizations at policy and management spheres. His latest portfolios with the Government of Afghanistan were Director of Donors Coordination and Director of Research and Civil Service Reform. Additionally, Mr. Jalali has served several World Bank, UN, US Government, and German Government (GIZ) development and governance projects at policy, program management, and technical consultancy levels. His areas of expertise include public policy, civil service reforms, local and social governance, institutional development, capacity building, and higher education. Mr. Jalali is fluent in Pashto, Dari, English, and has good German knowledge.

Abdullah Athayi
Co-founder and Board Member

a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Berlin’s Humboldt University, Mr. Athayi’s research, and study focuses are on Afghan diaspora, civic participation, integration, and transnational engagement. Abdullah Athayi holds a master’s degree in Law and a bachelor’s in Law and Political Science, both from Kabul University.

Mr.  Athayi started his civil society activities in Afghanistan along with transition politics and international intervention in 2001. As an advocate for human and women’s rights, the rule of law, and democracy, he actively participated in the post- 2001 vibrant civil society of Afghanistan through research, advocacy, and support to civil society. Before his relocation to Berlin, he worked as a program manager at the Heinrich Boell Foundation (HBS) office in Kabul, where he promoted democracy, peace, and security. Previously, he has worked as Legal Manager at Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) for the 2010 Parliamentary Elections and as Deputy Director for Human Rights and Eradication of Violence Organization. Mr. Athayi has published various research papers and articles in national and international journals and newspapers. He is fluent in Dari, English, Persian, and German.

Ghulam Sakhi Bayramli
Co-founder and Head of Media & Communications

As an Afghan Freelance Journalist based in Germany, Mr. Bayramli has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations focusing on Afghanistan, Integration, Peace, and Security studies from Turkey’s Ankara University, and a Bachelor-Professional’s degree with a specialization in Climate Change and Aviation Systems from Germany’s Center for Air Conditioning and Energy Technologies, Duisburg-Düsseldorf.

Mr. Bayramli’s education is accompanied by more than ten years of Journalistic and social activities, mainly focused on Research, Social Work, Education, Migration, Integration, and Higher Education in Afghanistan and Germany. As a multi-linguistic journalist and former university lecturer, he has worked with various media and educational organizations such as RRB Radio Network, the Balkh Today Magazine and Mawlana University, mostly in Afghanistan, but also in Germany, Turkey, Poland, and the Netherlands. Mr. Bayramli is fluent in English, Dari, Persian, Turkmani, Uzbeki, Turkish, and has intermediate, but improving levels of German and Pashto language skills.

Sajia Behgam
Co-founder and Board Member

A doctoral candidate at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Ms. Sajia Behgam has a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Erfurt in Germany, and a Bachelor’s of Law and Political Science (Women’s Leadership) from Kabul University.

Ms. Behgam has worked as Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Kabul University and at the same time served the Government of Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Officer’s office as the Advisor on Women and Youth Affairs. Prior to this role, Ms. Behgam was the Program Director for Afghan Women Skills Development Center. During the last 20 years, Ms. Behgam has worked extensively on both women and youth issues. She led programs that aimed to cure and rehabilitate women who were subjected to violence, abuse, and torture. Her research and subsequent paper on awareness over underage and forced marriages was arguably the first of its kind work. Additionally, Ms. Behgam has worked with the Supreme Court of Afghanistan on the campaign advocating the compulsory Registration of marriages in Afghanistan in order to prevent child and forced marriages. She is also a founding member of the Young Leader’s Forum (YLF) and represented the young women of Afghanistan women in Kenya, Switzerland, Norway, and Germany on diverse issues such as elections, democracy, peace building and youth, and women’s rights.
